Description:
As a part of the City’s Sustainable Energy Strategy, the City has installed more than 4 megawatts of solar, including solar covered parking installations at parks, community centers, and fire stations. Two phases of solar covered parking have been completed, with the first completed in July 2010, totalling 827 kW. The second phase, completed in December 2011, brought the City's total to 1.8 MW of solar covered parking over 1,720 parking spaces.
At Fire Station 10, located west of Stratosphere Tower and southwest of Downtown Las Vegas within Ward 1, panels shade 27 parking spaces. The total size of the system is 44 kW and will generate approximately 88,000 kWh, offsetting the building's meter by about 44 percent. Funding for the project came from CDBG-R (ARRA) funds and NV Energy SolarGenerations rebates. Contributing to the successful completion of the project was the "design-build" team consisting of Carpenter Sellers Del Gatto and CORE Construction.
