Description:
As a part of the City’s Sustainable Energy Strategy, the City has installed more than 4 megawatts of solar, including solar covered parking installations at parks, community centers, and fire stations. Two phases of solar covered parking have been completed, with the first completed in July 2010, totalling 827 kW. The second phase, completed in December 2011, brought the City's total to 1.8 MW of solar covered parking over 1,720 parking spaces.
At Centennial Hills Community Center, located in the Centennial Hills town center in northwest Las Vegas within Ward 6, panels shade 87 parking spaces. The total size of the system is 64 kW and will generate approximately 140,000 kWh, offsetting the building's meter by about 20 percent. Funding for the project came from City of Las Vegas Green Building funds and NV Energy SolarGenerations rebates. Leading the construction and successful completion of the project was TWC Construction.
