Description:
As a part of the City’s Sustainable Energy Strategy, the City is installing more than 4 megawatts of solar, including solar covered parking installations, using thin film or crystalline solar panel technology at parks, community centers, and fire stations. Two phases of solar covered parking have been completed, with the first completed in July 2010, totalling 827 kW. The second phase, completed in December 2011, brought the City's total to 1.8 MW of solar covered parking over 1,720 parking spaces.
At Fire Station 43, located in the West within Ward 4, panels shade 22 parking spaces. The total size of the system is 37 kW and will generate approximately 72,000 kWh, offsetting the building's meter by about 40 percent. Funding for the project came from New Clean Renewable Energy Bonds and NV Energy SolarGenerations rebates. |
