Description:

In April 2011 Autonomous Energy installed a 20kW solar power system at The Hornsby Shire Council Library Building.

The system comprises of 86 x world record efficiency 235W multi-crystalline PV solar modules manufactured by Kyocera, 2 x 3-phase solar inverters manufactured by SMA and data monitoring equipment manufactured by SMA. The array is mounted on engineered, solar specific mounting equipment and is connected to two SMA inverters via premium quality (USE2 rated) DC solar cabling. The inverter connects to the electricity network via a bi-directional meter which enables Hornsby Shire Council to use the electricity in the Library Building first and any excess electricity to flow out to the electricity network.

The system includes an online data monitoring system so that the plant can be monitored remotely and the system performance can be viewed online by the public. A public viewing screen will soon be installed in the lobby of the Library Building which will displays live outputs from the solar power system.

This solar power system will produce Approx. 27,700kWh per year. This will offset Approx. 29.4 tonnes of CO2 every year.
