Description:
As a part of the City’s Sustainable Energy Strategy, the City is installing more than 4 megawatts of solar, including solar covered parking installations, using thin film or crystalline solar panel technology at parks, community centers, and fire stations. Two phases of solar covered parking have been completed, with the first completed in July 2010, totalling 827 kW. The second phase, completed in December 2011, brought the City's total to 1.8 MW of solar covered parking over 1,720 parking spaces.
At Fire Station 44, located in Summerlin within Ward 4, panels shade 24 parking spaces. The total size of the system is 30 kW and will generate approximately 60,000 kWh, offsetting the building's meter by about 30 percent. Funding for the project came from New Clean Renewable Energy Bonds and NV Energy SolarGenerations rebates. CORE Construction was the lead contractor overseeing project construction.
