The Environment Zone (Ezone) is a purpose built environmental and nature education centre. The Ezone works with over 64 schools around Dudley, supporting them both at their own sites and at the Ezone. The Ezone works with over 10,000 people each year.

As part of it's commitment to promoting sustainability a 6kW Proven wind turbine was installed at the end of August 2006. Funding was obtained through Clear Skies (Dti and Building Research Establishment), Scottish PowerGreen Energy Trust, North Dudley Area Committee and the Friends of the Environment Zone. In November 2007 the project won GOLD at the Green Apple Awards held at House of Commons.

To compliment the wind turbine  a 2.94kW solar photovoltaic system was installed in September 2009 by Greenearth Energy Ltd. Funding was obtained from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme and from the Community Sustainable Energy Programme.  Our solar project has also won us a Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practise in November 2010 - again the ceromony was held at the House of Commons.

The total energy generated by the wind turbine and the photovoltaic system to date is:
Date:
19/04/2024
Energy:
65,981.08 kWh
CO2 avoided:
37,477.25 kg
