Spirit of Alaska Solar Panels
The Spirit of Alaska Solar Panel Array's are located at our Johansen Expressway and Gillam Way branches. Both solar panel arrays connect to GVEA's SNAP Program. Power generated by our solar array is currently sold back to our local Electrical Utility as a part of the Golden Valley Electric Association's Sustainable Natural Alternative Power (SNAP) Program. As a part of this program we can earn up to $1.50 per kilowatt-hour produced which is dependent on the number of voluntary contributions from the public the program receives and how many SNAP producers are generating in the area.

Gillam Branch Solar Panels
These panels were installed in 2008 and began our Go Green initiative and committment to solar power in the interior of Alaska. The panels are stationary, and are adjusted once a year to take advantage of the sun's position.
  • Installed in 2008
  • Located atop of our Gillam Way Branch
  • Generates 3.5 kW/hr
  • 20 Sharp 175 Watt monocrystalline modules
  • 2 strings of 10 modules each.
Johansen Branch Solar Panels
A second array of fully articulating solar panels have been installed at our flagship Johansen Branch. The panels move and track with the sun to maximize the long daylight hours of the Interior. The branch uses the power, as well as participating in the SNAP program. Though the panels are smaller than the Gillam Branch panels and do track with daylight, they generate roughly the same amount of power as the Gillam  panel site.
  • Installed mid-March 2011
  • Located to the right of our Johansen Branch as you look from the highway
  • Generates 2.8 kW/hr
  • 16 Sharp 175 Watt monocrystalline modules
  • 2 strings of 8 modules each.
