Description:
This owner-installed system is located in the San Juan Islands in the northwestern corner of Washington State,
USA. It consists of 11 independent ground-mounted solar arrays. Each array utilizes a Sunny Boy 3000US
inverter and integrated DC disconnect with 18 Sharp NE-170U1 solar panels arranged in two serial
strings. Each inverter is mounted on the solar rack.
The custom aluminum solar racks were fabricated by Mantle Industries in Blaine, Washington. Each rack is
mounted on three concrete piers anchored into the bedrock on the side of a hill. The slope of
the hill is approximately 12%.
This system is grid-tied to a dedicated 200A service. Six of the solar arrays collect the AC power in a field
panel with a 100A main breaker and six 20A backfed circuit breakers. The remaining five solar arrays collect
the AC power in a second field panel with a 100A main breaker and five 20A backfed circuit breakers. The
two field panels combine in a bussed-gutter and continue on approximately 240-feet to the AC-disconnect,
which is located adjacent to the production meter and the utility meter.
