Description:

Waterville Public Library serves its 5,800 taxpaying residents from an 8,000 sf building on three acres close to the village center of Waterville, in upstate New York.  Its facility having been constructed in accordance with numerous green specifications in 2006, the Library's next logical step toward a sustainable future was to implement a renewable energy source.

On July 20, WPL threw the switch to connect its photovoltaic electricity plant to the NYSEG grid.  The system was installed by Great Brook Solar out of South New Berlin, NY.  It comprises ninety-six  200-watt panels, manufactured in Vermont USA by Evergreen Solar, and six SMA Sunny Boy inverters.

Funding for the Library's $157K system was provided half by a Power Naturally incentive grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and half by a Public Library Construction grant from the New York State Education Department.
